Katie Paul, Anthropologist & Archaeoactivist

Katie is an anthropologist and archaeologist fighting to combat the sale of black market antiquities. Her research focuses on the trafficking and destruction of cultural property and its connections to transnational crime and terrorism in the Middle East and North Africa. Katie’s work on illicit antiquities from the Middle East and North Africa has produced new tools in analyzing the rapid loss of our history across the region. She is the co-founder and director of the Antiquities Trafficking and Heritage Anthropology Research (ATHAR) Project, monitoring transnational criminal networks and terrorist organizations trafficking illicit cultural property on Facebook. The ATHAR Project is the first investigative research of its kind in the world of black market artifacts on social media.
