“I am a historian of archaeology, science and popular culture and an archaeologist with extensive fieldwork and teaching experience. I have previously published on a broad range of subjects such as how archaeological discoveries have influenced society’s views on gender and youth; archaeology’s role in establishing science lectures on the BBC in the institution’s early years; or how diplomacy on the eve of the Second World War influenced the division of archaeological finds in Türkiye. My research currently explores the connection between philanthropic capital and labour to highlight how exploitative industries (cotton or banana plantations; meatpacking) have shaped archaeology as a discipline and consequently our understanding of the past.”
