Dr Andrew Lear, Classicist, LGBTQ+ & Art Historian
Andrew Lear is a well-known expert on LGBTQ+ history and art. His PhD is in Classics; his research focuses on same-sex relations in ancient Greek culture. He has published a widely-praised book and many articles. He has taught at several universities, including Harvard (where he won the Certificate for Excellence in Teaching four times) Columbia, and NYU. Since retiring, he has founded Oscar Wilde Tours, the first tour company focused on LGBTQ+ history and art, and We Were There, an educational non-profit about the LGBTQ+ past. He is also developing an TV series on LGBTQ+ history with author/actor Stephen Fry.
