Dr Alexander Clarke is a British naval historian specialising in the development, strategy, and technology of modern naval warfare. He holds a PhD in War Studies from King’s College London, where he studied with the Laughton Naval History Unit under the supervision of Professor Andrew Lambert. His research focuses on the evolution of the Royal Navy and naval aviation during the interwar and Second World War periods, examining how technology, doctrine, and procurement shaped maritime power. He is the author of Tribals, Battles & Darings: The Genesis of the Modern Destroyer, which explores the development of the destroyer classes that helped define the transition toward the modern multi-role warship. As a contract lecturer he has taught widely across military and technological history, including courses on the World War I, World War II, the Napoleonic Wars, the history of engineering and architecture, intelligence history, and naval warfare from the ancient Greek world to the present day. Alongside his academic work, he produces lectures and discussions on naval history through his YouTube channel for an international audience.
