Catch History Experts Dr Kate Vigurs and Melanie Backe-Hansen at the Tewkesbury History Festival

Two of the country’s leading history experts, Dr. Kate Vigurs and Melanie Backe-Hansen, are set to take the stage at the inaugural Tewkesbury History Festival, taking place from Thursday 18th June to Sunday 21st June.

Set against the backdrop of one of England’s best-preserved medieval towns, this exciting new festival brings together world-renowned historians, best-selling authors, and broadcasters to explore the incredible real-life stories that shaped our world.

Kate and Melanie will be diving into two completely different—but equally fascinating—areas of history, bringing their extensive research and storytelling to life:

  • – Dr. Kate Vigurs – Mission Europe: The Women of SOE When: Thursday 18th June Opening the festival’s first day, Kate will deliver a powerful and deeply human exploration into the extraordinary courage, secrets, and sacrifices of the female secret agents who operated behind enemy lines during the Second World War.
  • – Melanie Backe-Hansen – House Histories: Unlocking the Past When: Saturday 20th June As the weekend kicks off, celebrated property historian Melanie will guide the audience on a journey through the archives, revealing how to unlock the hidden social histories and secrets built right into the walls of our homes and historic buildings.

They join an impressive lineup of speakers for this debut event, which also features household names like Suzannah Lipscomb, Alison Weir, and Julian Richards.

Want to attend? The festival takes place at the George Watson Memorial Hall in Tewkesbury town centre. Tickets for individual sessions are available now, and early booking is highly recommended.
