Eye on the Needle is a documentary featuring ‘Cleopatra’s Needle’, an Ancient Egyptian obelisk situated on London’s Embankment. The film follows Dr. Paul Harrison, a graduate of University College London, as he investigates the history of the monument, how it made its way from Egypt to London, and its current state of preservation.
The underlying theme of the film is the debate on the most appropriate strategy for the conservation of the needle, and the risks inherent at its current location. Potential solutions are explored and experts consulted before Dr. Harrison finally gives his objective opinion on the matter. The campaign and documentary were begun by a collective of professional Egyptologists and film-makers who are concerned about the tragic state of the many ancient Egyptian obelisks and monuments around the world. The film investigates this threat and the monument’s history, historical, and physical properties. To support the campaign and follow its progression, check out its campaign page, ‘like’ the project page on facebook and follow on twitter @eyeontheneedle
